3 Hormone Balancing Superfoods
Adult hormonal imbalance is a common problem that comes with many unwanted side effects. As a natural cosmetics company, we understand that hair loss is one of the most frustrating of these side effects. Luckily, you’re not alone, we’re here for you. In this guide, you will find power packed superfoods, that are proven to assist in hormonal balancing. These are recommendations from a licensed professional, not a medical doctor. Our expert knowledge can be coupled with your own research, making sure you are aware of any contraindications, and understanding your hormone levels…i.e…low or high estrogen, low or high androgens, etc. It is always recommended that you consult with a healthcare professional before consuming any new supplements.
Now, let’s get into the good stuff - 3 Hormone Balancing Superfoods!
1. Reishi Mushroom
Reishi mushrooms are known to support hormone balance and assist those suffering from PCOS. This superfood can easily be consumed in a tea or capsule form. I like to drink tea, so I find it easy to consume in this form. For a better taste, you can use one tea bag of reishi, along with one tea bag of spearmint tea. Let steep a few minutes, then mix in a couple teaspoons of honey for a sweeter taste. Drink at least 2 cups per day. If you don't like tea, you can also purchase in the capsule form, or use the powder form in your food or smoothies.
Other potential benefits:
- Immune system booster
- Anti-Cancer properties
- Treats memory loss
2. Spearmint
For women with hormone imbalances, spearmint tea can be the answer to your problems. Studies have proven this herb’s ability to significantly reduce male hormones like testosterone, while increasing female hormone levels. Increased male hormone levels in women can cause issues like acne, oily skin, hair loss (from the head), and unwanted hair growth in other places such as the face, chest, back, etc.
Like reishi mushrooms, you don't have to consume this as a tea. But...why wouldn't you want to? LOL…it's so delicious! You can drink this alone or along with reishi tea (see recipe above). Drink at least 2 cups per day, rather you are drinking it by itself, or with reishi.
Other potential benefits:
- Relieves digestive issues
- High in antioxidants
- Reduces acne
- Reduces facial hair in women
- Accelerates normal hair growth
3. Maca Root
This superfood has been shown to have amazing hormone balancing benefits for both men and women. Many people enjoy it in their smoothies. I find it easiest to consume in the capsule form. If you opt for consumption in a capsule, a gelatinized version is said to be easier to digest.
Other potential benefits:
- Increased libido (sex drive) in both men and women
- Increased energy and stamina
- Increased fertility in men
- Reduced erectile dysfunction
- Increase in vaginal moisture, creating a lubricating effect
- Support of a curvy figure in women- weight gain in butt and breasts
Bonus! Fenugreek
This one is a bonus for you ☺
If you follow iYurvé on Instagram, you know we love fenugreek! Not only is it incorporated in our topical products, but I also consume it. Its versality allows you to consume in so many ways. Drinking fenugreek water is pretty common.
Although the taste doesn’t seem to bother many people, I’m not a fan of it. I find it easier to consume in the capsule form. Whichever your choice, it’s important to know that many people complain of fenugreek changing their overall body order. Most say that they smell like maple syrup or pancakes. I’ve even heard claims of smelling like curry, LOL…yes, curry! This depends on the individual and their genetic makeup because I did not experience any of this.
There are countless studies where fenugreek’s benefits have been proven effective. I base the amount I consume off these studies. That’s probably why I don’t smell like pancakes or curry either. However, I have still been reaping the amazing benefits.
Other potential benefits:
- Hair growth
- Glowing skin
- Support of breast milk production
- Lower blood sugar levels
